Ex-school mates of Sir Ridley Scott, director of Gladiator starring Russell Crowe, and Blade Runner with Harrison Ford, are reuniting thanks to the UKs leading people finding website, 192.com.
The ex-pupils were educated at Prince Rupert School in Germany, and many were children of cold war servicemen.
The co-educational boarding school was based at Wilhelmshaven between 1947 to 1972, later relocating to its current site in Rinteln.
This global school reunion was founded by Liz Bird, a former pupil who was searching for old friends from the 1960’s. She was amazed at the response from ex-pupils wanting to reunite and formed the Wilhelmshaven Association, which coordinates biannual reunions throughout the UK. The Association also produces a high quality newsletter three times a year to keep friends up to date.
“We have found people using newspaper adverts, radio appeals and 192.com”, said Pat Underhill, researcher for the Wilhelmshaven Association.
“An estimated 8000 children attended the school in 25 years, and the association has located over 3500 former pupils and staff scattered all round the world.
“192.com is an invaluable resource for tracing people in the UK by using the edited electoral rolls on the site,” she added.
The last Wilhelmshaven Association reunion was in Nottingham 2011, attended by 200 ex-pupils. Watch this space for news of the next reunion in 2013.
